500 Elephants Relocated From Majete National Park

Rangers in Malawi are taking on the mammoth task of moving hundreds of elephants into safer national parks.

The animals  suffered a sharp decline in recent years due to poaching and loss of habitat.

The project will relocate 500 elephants from different reserves to Nkhotakota national park

A sharp fall in their numbers due to poaching and habitat loss is behind the plan.

Patricio Ndadzera who is the Director for African Parks Country said “All animals that where moved here are now being moved again to Nkhotakota national park from being a recipient of wildlife, Majete is now a donor of wildlife.

This project is reported, the reproduction project will cost $1.6 million

A move of this scale has never been attempted and it has another important aspect

Futher speaking to the media Patricio Ndadzera said what iis being done is to create a tourism product for Malawi.

As you may know Malawi tourism destination was on paper , there this innitaitve is centered to make sure that becomes a reality
